CP Voucher Sync
-
Hi,
as in 2.5 (I think) the portal sync overhauled and has now all merged into the System/HA Portal sync, a "voucher roll sync only" is no longer possible. I think it was only a hacky thing in the first place until it got merged into the whole portal sync in HA, but there are quite a few inquiries about the old sync method to only sync e.g. the voucher rolls as to have a clean synced roll setup over multiple locations.
Is there any possibility to bring the old sync method back as a sort of pure "voucher sync only" thing without having to HA-sync the nodes in question with each other (or with those boxes already in a HA-sync setup)? We're only talking about old portal/vouch roll sync no more no less?
Otherwise it could be challenging to link boxes together with a "normal" HA/XMLRPC sync as that would potentially sync a lot more, wouldn't it?Edit: I know that "feature" wasn't really inteded, but there are quite a few companies that run multiple pfSense boxes for mainly for portal stuff that were using the portal/voucher sync only to sync multiple locations with a sort of master-portal instance that generated and managed the vouchers for all offices. And with that "feature" gone they now question how to set it up otherwise (if at all possible now)
Cheers

Highly unlikely that anything like the old sync would come back, it was a huge mess.

@jimp Thanks for that. And how about chances of a "new" minimal-sync that only syncs vouchers/mac allowances from the portal to another instance/portal so to keep them in sync with each other (e.g. allowed on-site personnel with devices allowed per mac synced across multiple locations)?
Just curious if that's something to be considered e.g. in the future?

Highly unlikely. We don't officially support XMLRPC doing anything but synchronizing a primary to a secondary node. Anything else that has worked in the past or works now is a lucky coincidence.
I don't see us directing any resources toward changing that, but if someone were to propose and develop a solution as a pull request that wasn't too disruptive we could consider it.

Totally get where you're coming from and understand that. I'll consider that as a possibility as it would be a nice bit of work. As I have one or two students with there final thesis linig up, perhaps we can throw a bit of work into this. Thanks for the idea :)
