Manual backups overwritten by ACB?
-
I've enabled ACB and currently have 100 backups in Netgate's cloud with the config to save 25 manual backups. I checked the Restore tab to see the list of backups I have and all my very manual backups are gone. They appear to have been overwritten by the last 100 automatic ones (Config Change column says "(system): Scheduled backup"). I just created a manual backup (Config Change column says "admin@192.168.20.15 (Local Database): Manual backup to test if it will be overwritten"), but now I've got to wait for another 99 automatic backups to see if it will be purged as well. I have the schedule set to daily and since the auto backups are still very valuable to me (they are based on point in time not on config change), I don't want to setup a temporary cronjob schedule to do backups every minute for the next 100 minutes.
Acknowledging that I know very little about the server side of ACB, can anyone explain where my manual backups have gone? If I read the "Manual backups to keep" comment in the Settings tab correctly, I should always have the last 25 manual backups making their way to the top of the restore list, right? IE: I should never lose those manual backups even after I've hit the overall limit of 100 and some automatic ones start to age out.
Running version 22.01

Hmm, there was another report of this recently but I can't find it now...
I'll try and replicate it.

@stephenw10 The poster seems to have deleted it, but it was after google had already made a cache of the post.

btb66 I don't think Auto Configuration Backup is working as should do for me. As a newcomer I've been taking Manual backups from the 'Backup Now' tab, I've set the number of manual backs to protect (not overwrite) at 40 as being new I thought I might need to have good restore options. These 'manual backups' I've made appear in the list on the 'Restore' tab, but they eventually get overwritten by the newest Automatic Backups, the same when I SSH and look for backups from the shell, they aren't being protected. I've done a search here and think from what I've seen these 'manual backups' should be shown and listed also in the 'Backup Now' tab and available to restore. If this is right I'm not seeing them, they only appear in the 'Restore' tab until they drop off the top of the list. I can can ping acb.netgate.com and the system log shows backup success. Is there anything else to try?

Ah, there we go. Thought I might have imagined it for a while...
-
@stephenw10 Were you able to replicate the issue?
-
Not yet, the 22.05 testing has taken all my time. However I do think this looks like a real problem. I'll test it as soon as I can.
-
@stephenw10 Any luck by now? Confirmed (as it's now a few months later) that my manual backups are still being overwritten.
-
No sorry it got pushed to the back of the queue. I'll try and get something done over the weekend.

@stephenw10 How's it looking?
-
Sorry, the coming release took priority over everything.
I'll try to replicate it as soon as I can.
-
@stephenw10 Happy New Year! Have you been able to work on this bug?
-
It's going to be after the 23.01 release. That's currently using every development resource.
-
@stephenw10 Now that 23.01 has been released is this going to be pushed back again?
-
I hope not, let me poke it.....
-
Just to be clear has this ever worked for you?
-
Ok, this is a backend issue. I also opened a public redmine to track it:

@stephenw10 Sorry, didn't reply in time. I don't recall it ever working as all my manual ACB... backups... disappeared as soon as I hit 100. Appreciate you looking into this and finding the issue on the backend.
-
Given what found in the backend I don't think it's worked in quite a while. I'm surprised we haven't seen any more tickets/threads about it really.
-
@stephenw10 Well I appreciate you continuing to reply as you could have just written me off... Glad it's getting traction.

@stephenw10 Me again. Any news?
