22.01 kernel mod problem with pkg WireGuard-0.1.6_2.pkg
-
RESOLVED, possible upgrade issue? had to uninstall then install from available packages fresh TWICE to get the kernel mod to deploy and load correctly. Upgrading the pkg didn’t work.
Problem:
Just upgraded wireguard to 0.1.6_2 while on pfsense+ 22.01. Have update branch set to “previous Stable Version 22.01”.Service won’t start. system log says:
linker_load_file: /boot/modules/if_wg.ko - unsupported file type
KLD if_wg.ko: depends on kernel - not available or version mismatch-
WTH!? why would it allow me to update a pkg that can’t run in the current kernel?
-
What is the correct procedure to revert the wireguard pkg?
I tried an uninstall and reinstall via pkgmgr, no joy, same issue.

RESOLVED by repeatedly uninstalling and reinstalling.
ok, 3rd time is a charm I guess…
Attempt 1: Successful upgrade pkg via Package Manager, but kernel mod fails to load, service won’t start.
Attempt 2: Successful removal of existing pkg via Package Manager and install from “Available Packages”, but kernel mod fails to load, service won’t start again…
Attempt 3: Successful removal of existing pkg via Package Manager and install from “Available Packages”, service stars just fine, All tunnels online and peers connect successfully.
