Sending LAN back over WAN port
-
Hello,
I'm very new to pfSense.
Here's the scenario.
I live out in the country, have a wireless ISP and I now have a static IP.
The ISP's radio is mounted on a pole about 500 feet from house.
My equipment is in a weather tight box mounted on the pole.
Internet comes out of the radio, into a smart switch, one patch cable to a outdoor WAP, the other patch cable to a fiber media converter, then through the fiber to the WAN port on my pfSense box. The other port on my box for my LAN smart switch.
So when I switched to a static IP, no more internet for my outdoor WAP,
No DHCP address. I would have to pay for another static for WAP.So I was thinking, why couldn't I just send a tagged vlan back though the fiber, back in smart switch and in to my WAP?
I did some research, the fiber passes everything. I know some ISPs use vlans and pfSence doesn't seem to mind vlans on the WAN.
So is what I'm thinking correct and can be done?
If I am correct how would I configure this?
I am very new to pfSence but have worked in IT for a while.
But I can't wrap my mind around it and I'm not too proud to ask for step by step instructions.. lolThanks for your time.

@chuck1968 Check out https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/vlan/index.html to see how to set up VLANs. You'd assign it to the same interface as WAN.

@rcoleman-netgate
Thanks for the link.
So you think it should work just fine? -
@chuck1968 as long as you have control of the switch out in the box and can setup vlans there then no its not an issue.
