Need to authenticate CP everytime the WiFi SSID changes?
-
My setup has few wireless APs( security disabled) connected to pfsense LAN. The users are authenticated vai CP vouchers with same DHCP pool and it works well without any problem. But whenever I switch my WiFi to another AP , I need to re- authenticate my self with same voucher. Is there any way to authenticate once and connect to any AP .

@osbhutan That doesn't make a lot of sense unless pfsense is not actually seeing your mac address, and seeing the mac of the AP. Or your client is changing it mac via privacy settings when it changes to the new AP.
I would look to seeing exactly what mac is authing to your CP.. and when you change to different AP does it change - if so, then you need to figure out why.
In typical setup, pfsense should be seeing the mac of the actual client, and unless your device is using privacy features like ios and android can do where they change the mac, sometimes every time they connect to wifi once you auth, that should be it and shouldn't matter what AP your actually connected to.

@johnpoz oh yes it makes sense . My phone gets random Mac addresses when connected to a new WiFi . Thanks for pointing it out . Will try and see alternatives .

@osbhutan even when it just moves AP but its the same ssid? That sure seems problematic for more than just a couple of reason.
Can't you just turn that off - I have it off my my home wifi connections.
