Strange log-in screen
-
I occasionally see this log-in dialog:
… when I connect to my network through OpenVPN. This did not happen prior to yesterday, and I did not install any software update on the gateway. Not knowing for sure, what this was about, I did not log in there. Plus, 1Password evidently can’t fill passwords into a log-in dialog like that.
My workaround was to not access the gateway at its IP address but rather at the address of the OpenVPN interface.
Still I am wondering, what’s up.

pfSense is a router (firewall) and has at least 2 IP addresses.
One on the LAN, the famous 192.168.1.1 or whatever other RFC1918 you have chosen.
And a WAN IP, which could be an RFC1918 also, or any other valid IPv4 address, depending on your uplink connection method. And true, Your OpenVPN server running on pfSense also has an IP address, like 192.168.3.1, or whatever you've chosen (but not 192.168.1.1 as PfSense already uses that network address).
So, when you want to access the pfSEnse GUI, you should use https://192.168.1.1 or https://192.168.3.1
The image you've shown is NOT pfSense. That is, I never saw that login box before.
Up to you to discover what device this is.Btw : If you had two devices on your LAN interface that use both 192.168.1.1/24, you have an issue.

@gertjan: Thanks for confirming my suspicion!

I found the following additional information:
“What is this extra login prompt?” by Montana Banana, a fancy web developer.
However, I don’t quite understand their explanation and how it would apply to trying to access the web GUI of the Netgate appliance.
