I read in these forums that if you want to turn off the DNSBL, you uncheck the "Enable DNSBL" and Save Settings.

I wanted to do that to see if it was being too overzealous in what it's blocking as we're getting a lot of web site breaks that I presume are being blackholed- just way too many.

However, when I do that and save the settings my Internet drops. In fact, it drops so hard that re-enabling DNSBL doesn't make it work again. In fact, even a restart doesn't bring it back. In fact, even a cold restart doesn't bring it back. Because in all cases, unbound won't restart. Even after a cold restart? Really?!

The only way I was able to bring the firewall back online was restoring from a previous backup.

All from unchecking Enable DNSBL? Really?

      I'm stunned.

Is this how pfSense is supposed to work?

      Tell me it ain't so.
