DNS with PPPoE?
-
I am trying to configure DNS in the router to give all clients on the LAN their DNS settings. I have a PPPoE connection.
When I put the OpenDNS address in the router the clients have the router's address listed for their DNS.
Can pfSense provide the DNS for it's clients on the LAN? -
On my home LAN pfSense provides the DNS to the LAN systems. I use OpenDNS. I have DNS forwarder enabled (in the web GUI: Services -> DNS forwarder). That means pfSense acts as DNS for my LAN systems but pfSense gets its DNS information from the DNS I configured (OpenDNS).

Thanks Wallabybob. I will play around with it some more.

Wallabybob, I know you use OpenDNS but do you also have a PPPoE connection to your ISP?
-
I don't use PPPoE. I tried it once with my ADSL modem but couldn't get it to work.
Do you mean PPPoE on pfSense WAN side? If not, what?
Do you think use of PPPoE makes a difference to DNS services to the LAN side of the pfSense? (The fact you asked in this topic suggest to me that you MIGHT be thinking there is some relationship. If so, why do you think that?)
Does this question have some relationship with your question in "Static clients in static LAN" in http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,18765.0.html ?

The ISP said that DNS on the router would not work. I'm thinking that these people don't know what they are talking about.

System > General Setup
Uncheck "Allow DNS server list to be overridden by DHCP/PPP on WAN"As long as that is checked, the DNS servers received by PPPoE will be used by the router. If that is unchecked, then the values you type in will be used.
