Traffic Graph/Total, Double upload amount with VPN

Hi,
Yesterday a friend connected to my wireguard VPN on PFSense to download a file. I was surprised on the WAN traffic graph to see him pulling double what I expected in mbps.
Checking the other graphs I could see that it was showing the amount which was expected from the LAN he was connecting to plus the same amount being shown on the WG0 interface. No biggie each of those showed he was pretty much maxing out my upload speed just didnt expect the WAN to be showing double what I had.
However I noticed that during the same hour on the traffic totals the upload amount was also roughly double the size of the file (big enough file to notice the difference)
Is this a known issue or do I need to change some config to not include the WG0 in each of these calculations?
