Innocuous post flagged as SPAM by Akismet

I'm trying to post a response on a thread, and my post gets the above error. There's nothing in the post that could remotely qualify as SPAM, no links of any kind, just text and nothing resembling a sales pitch.

Suggestions?

I think I figured it out. The post contained two instances of a string containing the characters less-than hyphen hyphen greater-than to represent a network connection. When I replaced those strings with entity references < and >for the less-than and greater-than it went through.

Akismet could be a bit smarter, no?
