I have followed the upgrade instructions for 23.01 but have one remaining persistent niggling issue. Snort would not start so I have hunted for numerous procedures far and wide, old and new, and followed them all to uninstall, reinstall, update, hot/cold boot, command line, and restore but sadly Snort is still dead and refusing to start. I may be missing a particular correct order-of-procedures to follow.

I found a pre-release bug report titled "PHP Errors at upgrade to 23.01 " and wonder if I may have stumbled onto an exceptional scenario which causes this error?

I am using pfSense Plus on a NetGate 3100 with pfblockerNG devel and Snort.

Am I correct to note that this Snort error is somehow loosely related to PHP pfBlocker error in 'Regression #13950"?

It's a regression bug, but not PHP. Here is the open Redmine Issue: https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/13958. This is going to take some time to fix (if it is even fixable) in FreeBSD 14.

Your only option for now is to remove Snort from your SG-3100. It will retain your configuration parameters in config.xml, and when you reinstall Snort it will restore the previous settings.
