I've installed ntopng + Status_Traffic_Totals and to protect the SSD in my 8200 I've implemented the "RAM disk" function with a planned savegrade:

      Periodic RAM Disk Data Backups
      RRD Data 3 hours
      DHCP Leases 12 hours
      Log Directory 3 hours

I notice that these two packages are not backed up at all as expected every 3 hours. This means that when I reboot Pfsense, I systematically lose all the log histories.

So my question is, is this a BUG, or why is it that not all the information saved on the RAM DISK is actually saved?

      I don't understand this logic.

I started with two "no-name" pfsense, one for use at home and the other as a backup in case of problems (which can happen when you're new to pfsense).
      ... And now I'm living with a Netgate 8200
... And sorry for my bad English...

Doesn't anyone have the same problem? or possibly a solution?

I'm glad, a solution should be found with the future version of Pfsense+ 24.07

          https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/11797

I hope it won't be postponed again :-) ... thanks to the developers for your work 👍

The Redmine ticket is for Traffic Totals rather than /var/db as a whole. In other words, this would not include ntopng.

I would not have high hopes of ramdisk support for ntopng. An SSD is listed as a requirement for running ntopng with pfSense.

Traffic Totals is a tiny amount of data. In comparison, the amount of data stored by ntopng is massive. Backing up and restoring the entire ntopng dataset on every reboot would be a significant cost, and I would recommend against this.

If you actually have an SSD, you do not need to use ram disks. You only need this with flash or USB sticks.

Thank you for your comment. Yes, I have an SSD (original) and I thought that setting it to "RAM" could also protect the SSD and thus let it live much longer.

I had read something about this, but can't find it anymore

              EDIT
well ... after some thought ja'i removed the "RAM" option and I'll see what happens next :-)
