Proxmox hosted pfSense Netgate Device ID changes on reboot
-
Hi everyone,
I have pfSense CE 2.7.0 installed under Proxmox with PCIe passthrough the NICs.
The installation works fine and performance is good.
However, I discovered the Netage Device ID changes every time the pfSense server was rebooted (without any changes on the VM configurations on Proxmox).
I followed the documentation on pfSense website to install pfSense under Proxmox except I use PCIe passthrough NICs (and checked the PCI Express checkbox on the device).
I also use PCIe passthrough my USB PCI device in order to allow pfSense to detect my USB mobile dongle properly.
I didn't find anything specific related to the NDI changes on pfSense installation running under Proxmox.
Do you experience the same behaviour? Do you have any suggestions to fix it? If I go for subscription, the changes in the NDI will cause troubles. Thanks.

No...I don't believe that's possible.

Hi @NollipfSense,
Thanks for the reply.
I did some more testings on my setup.
I found that the USB mobile modem has a non-functioning USB NIC which has the MAC address changes after every reboot on the pfSense.
The changes on the MAC address on this USB NIC is the cause of the changes of the NDI.

Interesting, indeed; that will do it....
