Does anyone know if this is truly used for android push notifications?

It seems like this is something that is needed, again I see so many posts where this is used as a botnet or other type of malware? Does anyone else spice the connections for this?

Can anyone confirm if Mtalk.Google.Com should be allowed to be accessed unimpeded?
