I use two main switches one in favor of a 1G-network and one in favor of a 10G-network. Both switches have their own lagg to pfSense and each switch has his own set of vlan's.

However there are situations where I would prefer to have one vlan shared across those two switches. Example for this is the management vlan.

At this moment I assigned the management vlan to switch-1 and extend that vlan to switch two using an inter switch link. That works, however has one disadvantage. If switch one fails, I can not manage things on switch-2 any longer. Of course there are solutions for that (e.g. each switch its own management vlan), but never the less I wonder if there is a better option.

Thinking about this problem I wonder if it is possible to:

      • create the managment vlan in the lagg towards switch-1 and in the lagg towards switch-2
      • bridge them to one vlan same broadcast domain
      • and define that vlan as one interface towards the firewall

      Just an idea
