Limitation on Assigned Interfaces for tun_wgX?

Appears that after tun_wg2 (IIRC) - all additional ones don't appear to qualify for interface assignment. Is there a limitation on this? This is particularly key for instances where there is a primary termination point and a backup termination point (as Wireguard appears to lack HA failover at present), thus its two connections and then using gateway groups to use A then B as alternate based on packet loss/latency/.... in order to fail over.
