OpenVPN server Netgate 6100 performance maximum concurent connections
-
Hi,
I can not find any information about the OpenVPN perfomances on the Netgate 6100 (or any other appliance for the matter). This appliance has HW crypto support for AES so it should not be processor limited, right? If I would want to connect a large amount of IoT devices over the OpenVPN and IoT devices are very low bandwidth, let say max 100kbps so that even 10000 of this devices would not fill the whole WAN U/D speed of 1Gbps, what would be the maximum number of IoT devices which could be connected? I believe that 10000 is too much, but would 500 devices work? I know that OpenVPN server is one thread only, so in theory I could add additional 3 OpenVPN server instances ( Netgate 6100 has Quad Core Intel Atom C3558 2.2 GHz inside, so one OVPN server per core)? Would this work or I am somehow SW limited and would run out of SW resources? For the record I am trying with PfSense plus on Celeron N5105 CPU and I with anything above 500 concurent connection strange things start to happen, like OpenVPN status is not showing no connected clients and sometimes the OVPN server really is not runing, but sometimes it is running just fine, just status is not showing anything. Would be using a GW group of a 10-20 PfSense appliances be a solution for this?
Kindly appreciate any info about this.
Thank you.
