On the Status / Service page I have 3 packages still showing that are not actually installed - highlighted in blue below:

      20231029-pfSense-Status-Service-Packages showing when removed.png

Two of these packages (UPS and haproxy) still show in the Services drop-down list and ntopng entries are listed in the Diagnostics drop-down.

      Services:

      Diagnostics:
       2023-10-29 at 13.25.28.png

Clicking on these stale items will produce a 404 error.

The documentation for this page makes no mention of possibly stale items, so lists no remedy to remove them.

This particular device has never had these packages installed but the config came from a device that has, or did have, these packages installed at some point. The errant packages do not appear on Package Manager 'Installed' list and show correctly as 'Available' to install; so Package Manager is ok.

I presume it is not intentional to keep these stale links or erroneous status displays listed. I'm not sure if it has always been this way or a bug introduced with 23.09.

      ☕️

@RobbieTT Could it be left over from a restore which didn’t install the packages? Or did you uninstall them on 23.09 and they were left over? IIRC the menu items are in the config file.

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

@RobbieTT I have seen this before, in any version of pfSense. Install the packages, and then uninstall them should fix it.

            Yep, that did it. 👍

            A longer term bug then.

The config file for this device came from one that had these packages in the past but did not (visibly) suffer these stale remnants.

Yup both the service and menu items are in the config file. If somehow the package was uninstalled, or failed to reinstall, but the config was not updated that is currently the result.

                @stephenw10

Thanks Steve - seems odd that these remnants do not display on the original device but still made it across on the config file.

Presumably I should try installing and uninstalling these packages again on my 6100 or should I make edits to the config file itself?

                  Either should do it.
