Re: UPnP Fix for multiple clients gaming - not working in 23.01?

I've had struggles with UPnP and likeness of Planetary Annihilation, Call of Duty, and others that actually use UPnP. I too researched configured reverted and changed settings over and over. However, it just didn't work.

For that are having issues this is what I did. I set the settings I thought were right, pretty basic, enable UPnP, no ACL rules (I was testing and frustrated). I then just exported my configuration in the pfsense backup restore tool. I reset my Netgate 2100 to factory defaults. I then restarted all settings, enabled UPnP and now everything works. I cannot help but to think something else was up.

First question is why are you still on 23.01? They made major changes in 23.09 for UPnP that fixes a lot of issues people had.

Second, make sure that all your computers have their network settings correct. I discovered the hard way that in Windows 11, if you have your network type set as public, it prevents windows from using UPnP at all, and thus wont work on PfSense.

I had multiple versions of CoD all working just fine last weekend, spread across PC and Playstation.

@behemyth No longer on 23.01. Nothing changed. Literally export all import all same PCs on the LAN and everything is good to go. Public private is a thing, but not in this case. Have to control the variables.

Could you share the steps you took to fix UPnP issues with games such as Planetary Annihilation and Call of Duty, even after trying various configurations repeatedly? Did you also face any challenges related to webcam settings during this troubleshooting process?

              I am on 24.11.
I have several consoles at home, PS5, PS4, Nintendo's. No issues at all.

              • I just assigned a fixed IP to them
              • put those IP in the ACL allow list.
              • Outbound NAT with static port for the consoles.

The only "issue" is that port mappings remain there for days. I have to manually cancel them.
At the moment I did not find any solution to remove them via cron job scripts.
