How to get docker containters to utilize openvpn for media server
-
Hello pfSense Community!
I'm currently in the process of setting up a media server at home, utilizing Docker containers for applications like Prowlarr, Radarr, Sonarr, Lidarr, and Deluge for torrenting. However, I encountered an issue with qBittorrent where I couldn't log in due to a random password bug. As an alternative, I've opted for Deluge. Additionally, I've installed the OpenVPN package on my pfSense VM, which is managed by Proxmox. Also quick question is openvpn better than wireguard?
Here's a brief overview of my goals:
-
Media Server Setup: I intend to use Docker containers to host Jellyfin for streaming media content within my home network. While I'll be utilizing the 'arr apps' for obtaining media, I have concerns regarding security, particularly with torrenting and my public IP address.
-
Security Concerns: Ensuring secure access to the media server from outside my home network and protecting my public IP are top priorities. Therefore, I'm seeking to integrate Docker containers with OpenVPN, with pfSense handling the server.
I'm reaching out to the community for guidance on configuring my pfSense OpenVPN to work seamlessly with Docker containers for secure remote access to the media server.
I would greatly appreciate advice on the following:
- Setting up Docker containers to utilize the VPN.
- Recommendations for Docker containers that integrate OpenVPN for secure access to media servers. I've herd of gluetun but I had difficulties getting it to work properly
- Best practices for configuring OpenVPN within Docker containers.
- Am I in over my head? is this even possible? Any potential challenges or considerations I should be aware of in this setup? is it a security risk?
As I'm still relatively new to this, any assistance or insights would be immensely helpful.
Thank you in advance for your support!
