Hostnames not working with OpenVPN & Pi-Hole
-
I've been trying every suggestion I can find regarding this issue. However, I've had zero luck.
I use Pi-Hole with PFSense and I wonder if that is a possible cause for my issue.
I just want to be able to type a computer's name rather than it's IP address.
I am not sure what other information I need to put here so please ask any questions regarding my issue that will lead us in the right direction. Here's some basic info:
Home IP Address Subnet: 192.168.0.0/24
VPN IP Address Subnet: 10.10.0.0/24
Pi-Hole DNS Server: 192.168.0.167
I've set this IP as the Default DNS Server for PFSense and the OpenVPN Server. -
@Protos can you ping the IP address of your pihole when your on vpn? pihole pretty sure out of the box only answers dns for the local network its attached too.. So no it wouldn't answer some 10.10.0.x address (your vpn client)
What you don't say in that info is what you set the vpn client to use for dns?

@johnpoz Regardless of what "Interface settings" is set to, I can ping it and access it. But I have to set it to "Permit all origins" in order for me to be able to actually utilize it on a VPN Client

@Protos shouldn't have to do that.. I use my pi from all other devices on my network, multiple vlans.. And can query it from my vpn client.
Does your pihole have multiple interfaces?

@johnpoz It definitely shouldn't. I never configured it to. It looks like I can select any option in "Potentially Dangerous" without it no longer working. But once I select "Allow only local requests" I can no longer reach the internet. Just my local resources.
