Snort for pfSense Documentation

Hey there - I want to get some deep experience with working with IDS/IPS with Snort on my pfSense box as a way to get some experience for when I apply for my first SOC Analyst role. The senior network engineer on my team at my current job told me that it is not recommended to set up IPS on my pfSense box, or at least with Snort, and just use it as an IDS. Regardless - does anyone here have good documentation sources for using Snort in a pfSense environment so I can learn, not just the basics of getting it going, but also the more advanced parts of it
