@rsicard What version of pfSense? (if not current see my sig)

        Try https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/troubleshooting/upgrades.html#upgrade-not-offered-library-errors

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

System Update says 2.4.5_1. Do not understand why SG-1100 says 2.5xx. Newby again.

@rsicard Don't install packages unless you have the correct version selected.

In theory you should be able to upgrade through a few versions to get current (24.03).

However you will probably need to reinstall anyway, which will skip a few version upgrades along the way and get you ZFS/boot environments:
              https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/troubleshooting/upgrades-1100-2100.html#efi-partition-size

              https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/solutions/sg-1100/reinstall-pfsense.html

If it's that old you may need the older installer image: https://forum.netgate.com/post/1172014 (free ticket to Netgate)

Then restore the config from a backup file.

You may want to review release notes and the upgrade guide:
              https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/releases/index.html
              https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/install/upgrade-guide.html

The current version for the 1100 is 24.03. That is pfSense Plus. The version you have on there now is Factory (not CE) and that was renumbered when we renamed it as Plus.

There was never a CE version for the 1100 because it's ARM based.

I would backup the config and reinstall 24.03 clean on that. It's just not worth going through all the upgrade steps to reach it IMO.

@rsicard I'm sorry I'm being brief, am in a training. :) Netgate hardware uses PfSense Plus which is similar with some extras. The numbering for Plus changed in 2021, to 21.x.

                    https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/general/plus.html

                    So v2.4.x is from ~2020.

                    Current CE version is 2.7.2.

@stephenw10 . Thanks for piping up. Consider you as the experienced one. Will follow your instructions. Now to figure backing up the config. Should be able to see config associated (backup) file. Thanks again for your help. Please standby for more clarification.

Yes just back it up from Diag > Backup/Restore. You can then restore it into the fresh 24.03 install.

Are things at an impass. Is there a way that I can update the firmware from ver 2.4.5 to 24.03? Is there an image file that can be forced to the SG-1100 thru what ever means to update the firmware image within the SG-1100. Please advise. Present image maybe outdated, does that mean the SG-1100 is non-useable? please advise.

@rsicard see the "reinstall" doc page I posted above.

you will probably run into trouble trying to upgrade. early models had the too-small EFI partition and the solution is to reinstall. Otherwise you can try the troubleshooting doc I posted and if it does work there will be multiple steps to get current.

Yes and at a firmware that old you probably have the old uboot version. So open a support ticket and ask for the compat recovery image. If you reference this thread TAC can check it.

Appears that firmware image is LOCKED. The following cannot be changed! Please advise next step for this issue.

OK. Now how much is this going to cost me to upgrade? This was not expected when I originally purchase the SG-1100. Otherwise would have not purchased same. Was no warning of cost to upgrade Community Edition.

                                            @rsicard You are misunderstanding.

You cannot run CE on an 1100, only Plus. CE can't run on ARM.

The Plus image is a free Netgate ticket. You need only your serial or NDI number. (check the sticker on it, or the pfSense dashboard)
