I looked for an Intel i350-T4V2 card.

It's new, that's why...I never had any problems buying ones from China...
-
@NollipfSense Until you bought the card that started this thread...
-
@WN1X bought the one you linked...it comes next month...hopefully no issues getting pfsense working...finally...thanks for everyone's help!

I tried the card, it has no mark at all...computer freaks out and beeps like crazy while its in...
Mmm, that sounds like it's either completely broken or somehow an incompatible card (wrong interface type). But with the advent of PCIe actually completely incompatible is unlikely.

@stephenw10 ya I dunno @WN1X the new one coming (with bradyid) should be the solution to my problems...thanks for your help stephen.

@NaibElSayel
Definitely you are not alone, have seen reddit post where somebody came out with another or similar problem โ only half ports are working after upgrade >13 FreeBSD based pfSense and the same user told that one of the cards works just fine.
I've had my fair share of fun with Intel/"made for Intel" cards myself, and more experienced people have mentioned that sometimes the firmware on the cards is original, and sometimes it's modified. China manufacturers usually modify it to work with rejected chips, where some functions don't work properly but can be disabled through the appropriate registers. Sometimes, it was possible to update the firmware on a non-original card, and everything worked similarly to the original (though of course not exactly the same, since they probably cut costs on transceivers and other components). -
@WN1X @stephenw10 So I got the card you linked ordered, unfortunately some hassle was it came with a yottamark not a bradyid like advertised, so requested a significant partial refund, which they did, and I've had pfsense running for a few hours now...thanks guys
-
And working without issue I assume?
-
@NaibElSayel Intel switched from Yottamark to BradyID in 2019, so you probably have an older card. Shouldn't be an issue if it is legit.
-
@stephenw10 nope no issue, it seems legit @WN1X
