Simplifying use of external SWAP and new size limits
-
I noticed in 23.04 that my device now has a max swap size for external devices, this shows an error now for my 100GB iPod type HDD converted to a usb drive. I have never seen this error before, leave me to wonder if 23.08 has the same changes. Is it ok to just leave it with a large swap or is that an issue? The reason I wanted to bring this up is the ability to use an external drive as a swap partition gave me vast new abilities when updating signature databases for clam av, snort etc while running. This is when it does a live reload my system normalizes after and stops swapping but during updates it no longer crashes to get memory.
On the topic of 23.08 Is there anyway to simplify the swap configuration for an everyday user, and or to make it easier? Thus someone just plugs in an external drive and or usb and configures it as a swap within the gui? With the speed of ssd and usb drives this could give users an edge for smaller memory machines. Not everyone is tech savvy enough to configure a swap partition on an external usb and change the pfSense system to utilize it. Again it seems simple enough to creat a script to do this for users that want this.
