Are the feeds in pfBlockerNG-devel regularly maintained and updated?
-
Hello everyone,
I’m currently using pfBlockerNG-devel on my pfSense setup, and I rely on various feeds for blocking ads, malware, and other unwanted traffic. I’d like to know if anyone has insights on whether the feeds provided by default within pfBlockerNG-devel are still actively maintained and updated.
Are there any feeds that are no longer receiving regular updates, or should I consider switching to custom feeds to ensure up-to-date protection?
Any recommendations for reliable feeds would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Best regards,

nothing to do with pfBlockerNG -- regular or devel feeds are the same
the actual maintenance and updating of the data provided in the "feeds" is up to whom ever is providing the data.
Many of them listed and available for selection in fact no longer update or have not updated in a long time.
You would have to look to the source of the feed to see if they are updating regularly - and choose ones that are perhaps more suited to your requirements.

Thank you for the clarification!
I understand now that pfBlockerNG itself doesn't manage the updates for the feeds, and it's up to the individual feed providers to maintain their data. I'll make sure to check the sources of the feeds I’m using to verify their update frequency.
In the meantime, does anyone have any recommendations for reliable and actively maintained feeds that are suitable for blocking ads, malware, or other unwanted traffic? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks again!

@Nimizu take a look at the pfblockerng.log as it has the last updated timestamp of the feeds that you use.

Thank you for the tip!
From what I understand after checking the pfblockerng.log, it seems that this log stores the timestamps of updates for the feeds we have already downloaded and are using.
Do you know if there’s a service or a way to track updates or changes across all available feeds in pfBlockerNG, even those that we haven’t yet downloaded or enabled? It would be helpful to know when feeds are updated or no longer maintained, even if we’re not currently using them.
Thanks again for your help!

I scan the logs every once and a while when running a Force Reload All rather and look for feeds that come back regularly as having 0 in the final count column after de-duplication as the lists load, looking to remove feeds that are already part of others rather and ones that are down altogether. Even when feed lists get abandoned from updates over time doesn't mean they're no longer effective unless if until they become merged into other lists that you use. https://filterlists.com/ has many other lists that can be added as long as the right list format is selected but same case there as far as which lists are actively maintained
