      Hi,

I'm trying to get ProtonVPN to work in OpenVPN on a pfSense 2.7.2 firewall.

I'm following steps described in Michael Bazzell Extreme Privacy book, at pages 200 to 210.

When I get to the step where we change Firewall -> NAT -> Outbound. , I can't seem to find the autocreated rules as below:

In the lower portion of the screen, click the pencil icon (edit) next to the option with a description
similar to "Auto created rule - LAN to WAN"
      or
In the lower portion of the screen, click the pencil icon (edit) next to the option with a description
similar to "Auto created rule for ISAKMP - LAN to WAN"

My question is how these rules get created ? Especially when the step right before that is to switch to "Manual Outbound NAT rule generation"

I'm guessing this may be why the VPN client is unable to connect but perhaps I'm wrong, I'm tempted to reset everything and restart the config testing every step out of the way.

Any good pfSense firewall tutorial I could get my hands on to really grasp all the concepts behind this arcane config ?

Try to follow the steps mentioned in their official guide for pfSense:

        • Proton VPN over pfSense

        Regarding your question:

Once you are in NAT > Outbound, you should go to the tab:

        • Manual Outbound NAT rule generation.
          (AON - Advanced Outbound NAT)

here you should see the automatic rules created.

Actually I have Proton VPN over pfSense working, although I'm getting some strange random issue I'm trying to investigate.

        Hope it helps
