High Availability
-
I have a few questions about High Availability.
- Does the HW need to be the same or can the HW be different but as long as same versions?
- Will pfsense run on a raspberry Pi4
- is there a central mgmt screen if running High Availability and synching between devices?
-
- Hardware can be different if you are virtualising the environment.
You need to make sure that all Ethernet interfaces are created in the same order in that case.
In any case, for first time tinkers, you will be far better of with identical machines, since there are culprits for newcomers. HA isn't exactly for beginners. - No it won't.
- The is the ha screen for carp interfaces, and there is also the config synchronization settings page
HA is done via heartbits and carp ip's that are moved in an active/standby scenario (also with state migration) and a automatic configuration screen mechanism.
For multiinstance management there is a new management option from netgate
You can read more about it here

There isn't any specific handling in MIM for HA setups yet. It's something we expect to have though. It's exactly the sort of thing I'd want to see there.
