      Hi All,

Having some peculiar issues with the Wireguard service since the upgrade to 24.11 back in Dec 2024.

After a few days of running, the Service Status on the Dashboard shows it stopped while Wireguard is indeed running and functioning and traffic is flowing.

This issue happened immediately after the upgrade, which at the time had the previous Wireguard version to 0.2.9

If I run a reinstall or remove/add the Wireguard package, the service status shows as running again and will function for a few days until it stops again on the service status.

The upgrade from 24.03 to 24.11 was an unpleasant one for me, and initially the dashboard was crashing and would not load, until rolling back to the previous boot environment deleting all the widgets upgrading then re-adding the widgets.

So the question I suppose is the issue dashboard related to Wireguard a widget, or is Wireguard indeed failing in time where a reinstall of the package corrects it?

Any tips to troubleshoot would be appreciated.

Just reinstalled Wireguard for the 6th time, so it is now "working" will post more follow ups on that when it fails again.

      Thanks all

Was looking through the system logs around the last failure point in time, and may have found a clue.

The issue with the service/widget appears to happen after reboots of the pfSense appliance.

any other logs I can look through? there doesn't appear to be package level logging.

Ok some updates since this is such an active thread.

No issues with the wireguard service since disabling the cron job for nightly reboots.

There cron job was created years ago as a preventative to clear connections and memory from the daily activity, and to re-establish a new reconnection to the wireguard vpn provider.

Assuming that the wireguard service does not shut down gracefully from this reboot.

Any suggestions on how to stop the service gracefully before the reboot?

Still perplexed that this is not a feature in the interface to schedule reboots.

            Hello,
I have the same problem with Wireguard.

After a restart of the PFsense (no matter if restart or cold start) the Wireguard service does not start anymore and cannot be restarted.

I have confirmed if you reboot with wireguard up it crashes after reboot.

have you tried stopping the wireguard service then rebooting and seeing if it comes up without errors?

am not overjoyed at the fact I had to disable the daily cron reboots to stop this issue, but it is what it is.

whats more troubling is the lack of replies to this thread.

Will be opening a support ticket on this one eventually, just for Sh... an G.....

I tried it. I stopped the WG service and restarted the PF Sense. But even so, I can only get the service to work again by reinstalling the Wiregard package.
