PfSense on KVM

  • I have it working reasonably well, though due to pfSense's lack of paravirt support, cpu load with moderate (10-15mbps) amounts of traffic is rather high, especially with QoS turned on.

I was wondering if there was a way to update the bsd kernel to support the various paravirtualization interfaces that KVM provides. At a minimum the core system device paravirt (acpi/pit/timer stuff, and cpu passthrough, etc). Though I'd also love to have full virtio support as well for fully paravirtualized disk and net devices.

If there is support in FreeBSD for those options, it may be possible in the future. I don't think virtio is supported even in the most current versions of FreeBSD though.
