Donations needed
-
No current developer has multiple WAN connections any more. I wrote most of the code when I had two WANs and have spent quite a bit of time supporting it courtesy of other peoples boxes (many thanks to those who were broken for extended periods while I or one of the other devs fixed multi-wan bugs). What is really needed is a permanent multi-wan setup; this doesn't need to be done with real WANs (although I'd love to have someone footing a one year Comcast contract ;-P). I could use three low end boxes in the Chicago area, two with two (vlan capable) or three nics and one with just one. One to use as a client/server, the other two to simulate multiwan (in both directions, one running RELENG_1, the other running HEAD).
Contact me via the forum or billm at pfsense.com if you have some equipment that can be used for this purpose. Thanks.
Update: We could still use donations for this, but contact coreteam at pfsense.com. The equipment I need is now on it's way, but other developers could make use of similar setups.

Guess nobody is interested. I had three people contact me, nothing ever came of it. Somewhat surprising considering the number of views this post has had and the number of posts in this forum.

Indeed a shame. Considering that none of the developers have multi-wan nor do they have proper testing environments that would simulate multi-wan.
-
Even more a shame as this is an often used feature (judging from the forumposts and mailinglist traffic) :(

If I could supply any part of the list you mention I would've done, but the stuff I can manage is 4000 miles or so away from where you want to use it, so instead I coughed a couple of bob for non-specific funds. Perhaps, if you need to know that this particular project is worthy of a handout, you could post in the bounty topic.

Actually, I posted it here because it was worthy of this forum, the people that visit this section use the code in question. I'm not looking for a bounty, I have no specific goal in mind. I just want us to be able to continue to support this part of our codebase. Without equipment, it will stagnate, all the rest of my equipment is in use supporting other parts of our codebase or becoming casualties of age. I'm not asking for cash, I'm not asking for new equipment, I'm asking for old slow equipment that works (and meets pfSense's low minimum requirements). If we get the equipment, we can guarantee being able to test the multi-wan code and test changes that potentially affect the multi-wan code. This decreases the amount of time we'll spend in alpha and beta on new versions as we can test instead of relying on the community to test.

Yeah, I realise you want the kit but from where I stand it'd be cheaper than shipping to just send the money and have you buy something locally :)
Hey, how about Ebay? You find what you want, someone else pays, you get the kit.

How about someone buying something at ebay and arranging the shipment to bill's site?

Fair enough. And possibly easier for some.

There's a ton of equipment here for very little cost.

Anyone willing to make a purchase and have it shipped to me, feel free to contact me as mentioned above. I picked on Dell only because given a choice, I'd as soon have matching stackable machines (allowing me to keep cable lengths short too) rather than a hodgepodge of machines…but it's not a big deal by any means. The boxes in the yellow section are what I'm needing. Three nics in two of the machine, one in the other.

where are u.I'm in the Chicago area (I'll provide any shipping info privately via email to bill.marquette at gmail.com or billm at pfsense.com). I've gotten one donation of cash that I can use to pick some stuff up from eBay. Three other offers that have gotten somewhat stale and haven't come through as of yet.

Embedded hardware is fine - I can work around or make use of most hardware limitations ;)

Hello,
I was speaking with Chris Buechler via email and he notified me of this post. I have your contact information and will provide a Tnet 300 for your development work…
Here are the specs of the unit - http://www.topell.com/?q=node/9
I have your contact information, I will send you guys the tracking number when I send it out. Please expect 1-3 weeks for delivery due to our schedule and the holidays
Thanks for everyone's hard work on this project!

Thanks a ton Topell. I think with this donation and the others that have sent in cash (thanks, everyone who sent in a donation for this is already listed on the donations page), that I'm ok. Any further donations to this should be sent to the main pfSense PayPal account and coreteam can distribute to anyone else with needs.

Bill,
Do you still require anything? Last time I checked, ebay had a few Dell computers in the Chicago area. I'm not sure if the sellers will ship to a different address etc., so if you do still require something, I could send you funds via PayPal equal to the price of one of those systems… assuming we're talking about the same computers.
Let me know, I'm using the dual wan setup now and would like to contribute to its continued success and support.
Thanks,
-- Phob

I've had a few donations sent my way, Chris had some equipment I could use and I'm waiting on shipment of some hardware from a vendor donation. Assuming it all arrives as promised I'm set to be able to continue working on this code. However, if you still wish to donate, send funds to: paypal _at chrisbuechler.com
That is the main pfSense PayPal account and anything sent there can be distributed to developers as needed.–Bill

Hello,
I just wanted to let you know we shipped the unit, and will arrive tomorrow. Thanks for your patience, the last few weeks have been crazy.

That T300 looks nice, what does it cost?
-
Do you have a need for anymore hardware? I've got a whole pile of Nokia IP330 motherboards, I could donate a few to the cause. Of course, I don't know too many people with empty chassis laying around, but these motherboards work great. Or, if you need any other hardware i'd be happy to help. I'm in the Northern Minnesota area, not too far away from Chicago.

I have a few Dell GX1's sitting around I would part with
500mhz CPU
256mb of RAM
8-10gb or so HDDNothing much, but I could part with a couple if these would help you out any.
Let me know, I would be glad to help. (I also have a few old nics sitting around, boxes of ISA 10mbs, and a few Intel Pro 100's)

I'm good for now, but hardware donation info can always be sent to coreteam at pfsense.org and we'll see who needs what. Thanks

I can setup a box for multi wan testing. I have two cable modems with different IP subnets and would be willing to setup a box for a time to help develop the product.
I'm currently running a multi-wan setup and would like some more development on the FTP side.
