Pb: SMTP, POP, IMAP, … traffic blocked

  • Hi,

My captive portal is set up on a PCI Ethernet interface linked to a wireless access point. The access point is configured to simply broadcast the network. All of my AP clients can surf the web using the HTTP and HTTPS protocols although they cannot fetch nor send mail using a mail client (Thunderbird/Outlook). Disabling the captive portal resolves this issue so it is certainly not an AP issue. The only firewall rule that exists on this interface OPT4 let pass all I/O traffic.

I tried setting a higher priority to the SMTP, POP, and IMAP protocols using the traffic shapper wizard and this possibility doesn't work.

    Comments and ideas are welcomed,

    Philippe

  • Nobody got this issue?  :-\

  • Well, if I managed to solve this I'll let you know.

  • What is the result of disabling the traffic shaper all together while leaving the captive portal active?

  • There is no change in the port/protocol blocking issue. I had try it before and verified it again.

  • On my settings, I add mail server's IPs in allowed IP addresses list so every client can make any connection to those servers but more restriction rules are define by Firewall rules.

As far as I know, Captive portal block every things (port) then the firewall rules apply for every clients which pass the CP.

  • It probably happen due to your firewall setting. Try to allow POP3, SMTP and IMAP ports in your outbound interface. It should be work. If you wish to strengthen the security, add the IP address of the mail server.

Hi! Where should I allow POP3,SMTP ports? Is it under Firewall–Rules, Services--Captive Portal or what? Can you please be specific? I'm having a hardtime connecting to my mail server hosted outside our network.

  • Can you provide screenshots of your Captive Portal settings, your OPT4 firewall rules and the Traffic Shaper setup.
