Rrd showing nonexistent gw's + rrdtool update… "ERROR: unknown DS name" @boot
-
Hi,
These errors show up when booting since I configured the traffic shaper, which was several snapshots/weeks before, the shaper seems to work btw.
Now I'm on the last snapshot from yesterday..Jul 14 02:18:35 php: : The command '/usr/bin/nice -n20 /usr/local/bin/rrdtool update /var/db/rrd/opt2-queuedrops.rrd -t :opt2:qACK:qDefault:qOthersHigh:qOthersLow N:U:U:U:U:U' returned exit code '1', the output was 'ERROR: unknown DS name ''' Jul 14 02:18:35 php: : The command '/usr/bin/nice -n20 /usr/local/bin/rrdtool update /var/db/rrd/opt2-queues.rrd -t :opt2:qACK:qDefault:qOthersHigh:qOthersLow N:U:U:U:U:U' returned exit code '1', the output was 'ERROR: unknown DS name ''' Jul 14 02:18:35 php: : The command '/usr/bin/nice -n20 /usr/local/bin/rrdtool update /var/db/rrd/opt1-queuedrops.rrd -t :opt1:qACK:qDefault:qOthersHigh:qOthersLow N:U:U:U:U:U' returned exit code '1', the output was 'ERROR: unknown DS name ''' Jul 14 02:18:35 php: : The command '/usr/bin/nice -n20 /usr/local/bin/rrdtool update /var/db/rrd/opt1-queues.rrd -t :opt1:qACK:qDefault:qOthersHigh:qOthersLow N:U:U:U:U:U' returned exit code '1', the output was 'ERROR: unknown DS name ''' Jul 14 02:18:35 php: : The command '/usr/bin/nice -n20 /usr/local/bin/rrdtool update /var/db/rrd/lan-queuedrops.rrd -t :lan:qInternet:qACK:qDefault:qOthersHigh:qOthersLow:qUltraHigh N:U:U:U:U:U:U:U' returned exit code '1', the output was 'ERROR: unknown DS name ''' Jul 14 02:18:35 php: : The command '/usr/bin/nice -n20 /usr/local/bin/rrdtool update /var/db/rrd/lan-queues.rrd -t :lan:qInternet:qACK:qDefault:qOthersHigh:qOthersLow:qUltraHigh N:U:U:U:U:U:U:U' returned exit code '1', the output was 'ERROR: unknown DS name ''' Jul 14 02:18:35 php: : The command '/usr/bin/nice -n20 /usr/local/bin/rrdtool update /var/db/rrd/wan-queuedrops.rrd -t :wan:qACK:qDefault:qOthersHigh:qOthersLow:qUltraHigh N:U:U:U:U:U:U' returned exit code '1', the output was 'ERROR: unknown DS name ''' Jul 14 02:18:35 php: : The command '/usr/bin/nice -n20 /usr/local/bin/rrdtool update /var/db/rrd/wan-queues.rrd -t :wan:qACK:qDefault:qOthersHigh:qOthersLow:qUltraHigh N:U:U:U:U:U:U' returned exit code '1', the output was 'ERROR: unknown DS name '''
Something which is also strange (but not exactly related as the errors above appeared long before that) is that rrd graphs lists gateways that are long gone, that aren't present anywhere else in the gui where you might select any gateways. Also those gateways aren't present in config.xml. One of those is "gw_opt2" for example, but there are more.
Thank you!

You'll have to delete those rrd files from /var/db/rrd/ before they'll disappear from the GUI RRD choices.
As for the RRDs with errors, you may need to delete those files too, and they should be recreated properly.
-
Thnx very much!
Can I just delete all files in that directory and it will recreate them as needed?
-
It should, you might need to go to the RRD settings page and press save to kick it in the rear and recreate the graphs.
-
:D
Thnx! -
Hi,
I removed /var/db/rrd/* and all invalid gateways disappeared. Great!
But the boot time errors I get since the beginning after configuring the traffic shaper about 1 month ago still persist:

I remember at least one user also reporting this problem some weeks ago..
What's this about anyway? Only affecting rrd drawing graphs for queues I suppose and not affecting anything else?Thank you again!

I thought all of the graphs would have been recreated by pressing "Save" on the RRD Graphs settings.
I'd have to look into what creates the traffic shaper RRDs.

jimp, Did you have a chance to see what creates the traffic shaper RRDs? I'm using the latest snapshot and i'm getting the same errors that mxx reported back in July. I only see the error when the box first boots up. Going to keep an eye on it but the graphs seem to be updating tho, so it could nothing…

i have the same problem. i changed some traffic shaper values and upgraded to the latest snapshot (old one was three days older) and after a reboot it get these:

i tried deleting them as suggested and did another reboot but the message still appears. does anyone know how to fix this? queues and shaper work fine though!

I don't have a system that's up to date with shaping enabled to try, but can you try running this from Diagnostics > Command?
First the original one:
/usr/bin/nice -n20 /usr/local/bin/rrdtool update /var/db/rrd/lan-queuedrops.rrd -t :lan:qInternet:qACK:qOthersDefault:qP2P:qVoIP:qGames:qOthersHigh:qOthersLow N:U:U:U:U:U:U:U:U:U
(I expect that to fail, but it's good to double check)
And then try this one:
/usr/bin/nice -n20 /usr/local/bin/rrdtool update /var/db/rrd/lan-queuedrops.rrd -t lan:qInternet:qACK:qOthersDefault:qP2P:qVoIP:qGames:qOthersHigh:qOthersLow N:U:U:U:U:U:U:U:U:U
And for good measure, show the output of:
rrdtool info /var/db/rrd/lan-queuedrops.rrd
-
Nevermind, I found the problem, should be fixed on future snapshots.

i run those from ssh:
1st one gave: "ERROR: unknown DS name ''"
2nd: seems to be accepted

It should be fixed now:
https://rcs.pfsense.org/projects/pfsense/repos/mainline/commits/857a4a79864a4b250271e5a5648ddb2a3ad249eeOnce that makes it into snapshots anyhow.
