Wow, very cool, nice work. Got more pictures, and/or any info on the build?

Thanks all. I have pics and specifications from the entire build process from teardown of the original chassis (RIP, HP pulse generator) on thru to completion. Preparing a post now and will get it up over the next couple days…

Top notch work. It's been awhile since I've looked at casemods. Can't wait.

This is just awesome, really cool! Looking forward to the entire build process post. Is the beta stable enough for every day use on the X7SPA motherboard?

You nailed it… After I switched over to using this live for home use I did just that... it's now on my home office desk. I thought briefly about even putting it up in the living room but it has proven too tempting a target for little hands.

It's been rock solid, but I'm still evaluating day to day to make sure everything is on track. No hiccups yet…

RAM was problematic in the mobo, however. It's very picky.

                      Nice photo.  What lens?

Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro. One of my favorite portrait lenses as well, in addition to being very useful for PCB shots (will post those in a bit).

Ah, that's what I thought.  I just bought the 100L, the one with the Hybrid IS.  Awesome lens.  I went back and forth between the regular 100 Macro and the 100L and ended up with the latter as it was technically a gift for my wife and she isn't the greatest photog around.  Getting better though.

I look forward to some close up PCB shots.  :)

Could you tell me where you bought the supermicro x7spa-hf, please?
It's impossible to find mini-itx supermicro boards in Brazil.
I wanna buy one x7spa-hf, 1Gb ram and one mini-itx chassis.

                            Edit: I've found a NewEgg combo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.425906
That 1U chassis fits to me.
Newegg doesn't ship to Brazil but now I know where to buy it.

Anyway, you said RAM was problematic in the mobo. So, what RAM works fine?

you would not believe the view up here

TheNerds.net ships pretty much everywhere outside the US but their prices & shipping rates stink.  Might be worth it to you though, can't say.

Must be 8 chip per side sodimms, not four chip.

I am using G.SKILL 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Laptop Memory Model F2-5300CL5S-2GBSQ (also bought from newegg). Be careful when buying other sodimms from newegg. I initially purchased one of the these crucials from them and the photo did show 8 chips per side but it's actually 4 and did not work.

Added new photos to top post (see http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,27353.msg142416.html#msg142416 ). Just set up IPMI hardware watchdog and am testing it out now. Not sure of the best way to test other than to check with and without IPMI loaded, and that seems to work (i.e. BMC power cycles if IPMI isn't kldloaded) so I'm assuming everything is working there.

Very nice.  Quick question, where'd you get the cables with the metal sleeving?  Did you buy or build?

Built. The conduit was actually stuff I had laying around for years, picked it up at Tokyo Hands waiting for the "right" project for it.

You can buy flexible water supply hose used for connecting water pipes to heater units/ shower heads as well.
