OpenVPN ping from remote to local vmware guest fails.

I have a working OpenVPN connection between my local subnet and remote subnet.  I can ping from my remote subnet to every device on my local LAN EXCEPT a VMWare guest on one of the hosts.  I can ping the host but not the guest which has a bridge connection to the host.  It seems as if the HOST is ignoring or filtering the arp messages to the guest.  Any ideas?
