Network Traffic difference
-
Dear all,
In my pfsense traffic graphic shows WAN in 4 Mbps LAN out 1Mbps Why this difference????anything wrong with mypfsense?
-
Are you using any packages, squid perhaps?
It could be anything really, traffic shaping, a package downloading data, etc, etc.
You could get a packet capture from the WAN side (10,000 packets or so) and run it through wireshark, see what it really is.

Squid can absolutely impact your network throughput. If misconfigured, or not given a decent amount of memory and CPU, squid will absolutely slow down your network traffic. I would encourage you to disable squid and try your tests again.
To fulfill Jim-P's request, you might want to visit this page: http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Sniffers,_Packet_Capture

Squid has been known to do this in the past, so that's not really a mystery if you have that package installed. Especially if you have the custom settings on there to handle windows updates or to cache large files.
The packet capture won't tell you much in that case, but squid's access logs might.

i have done * Edit /boot/loader.conf.local
* Change kern.ipc.nmbclusters="0" to kern.ipc.nmbclusters="32768"
* Reboot the pfSense router
then the difference problem solved then the heavy usage is due to the microsoft update i cancelled all and now its working fine
