Promiscuous mode enabled

Hi,
I've noticed the following warnings in my system log (to be read in a sequence from the bottom up):
Jun 4 10:28:06 kernel: pflog0: promiscuous mode enabled
Jun 4 10:28:06 kernel: WARNING: R/W mount of / denied. Filesystem is not clean - run fsck
Jun 4 10:28:06 kernel: WARNING: R/W mount of / denied. Filesystem is not clean - run fsck
Jun 4 10:28:06 kernel: WARNING: / was not properly dismounted
Jun 4 10:28:06 kernel: Trying to mount root from ufs:/dev/ad0s1a
Jun 4 10:28:06 kernel: ad0: 19880MB <maxtor 2f020l0="" vam51jj0="">at ata0-master UDMA133</maxtor>I've found my way around configuring pfSense, but I still know nothing about UNIX systems, so my question is if this is something to worry about?
I run a 1.2.3-RELEASE on a AMD Athlon XP 2500+ machine with 512 MB of RAM.

It sounds like there is a problem with your filesystem "fsck".
In windows this is scandisk or checkdisk. As far as I remeber there is a thread here in the forum where they explain how to do this on pfsense.
I think, you have to reboot your pfsense and then start in "Single User mode" and the run fsck.
Perhaps you can find a better explaination if you search for "fsck" or "Single user mode"

Promiscuous on pflog is normal. The fsck happens automatically when the filesystem isn't clean (such as after a power outage or just yanking the power cord, when the system isn't cleanly shut down), it's succeeding or it wouldn't be able to mount root. Everything there is normal.

Thanks guys for your replies. Actually power outage is exactly what happened. I also figured out that "promiscuous mode" had nothing to do with the file system.
After a proper restart the system log is clear of warnings.
Thanks again.
