Very high CPU usage?

Hey guys,
I'm running a Supermicro 6016t-ntrf system with 48GB RAM, 2x e5620 quad core Xeons and ESXi 4.1 u1. I have shifted 2 PFsense routers from an older 8 core socket 771 ESXi system and performance ahs dropped hugely (even though the new hardware is faster?). Of particualr concern is the massive CPU usage I'm seeing with PFsense now. Even routing 10mbps of normal traffic (no NAT, shaper or anything - just public subnets) its spiking to 2000mhz CPU usage.I'm wondering if I need to look at polling on the VMNics? I am using e1000 NICs for all interfaces with some VLANs on one of the PFsenses.
My main issue is a lack of throughput now. I'm struggling to do 10mbps through PFsense whereas before I could do 500mbps+ without too much trouble.

Just as an experiment I'm currently installing a secondary testing PFsense and its taken 4 hours to get to 40%. I'm wondering if it could be slow disk access but would this even affect PFsense?

Hey guys,
Just an update on this, after speaking with PFsense support they suggested I look at the dupelx settings on our switch where the WAN comes in. Sure enough the port was only auto-negotiating at half duplex. After setting this to forced 100mbps full-duplex and installing open-vm-tools everything is working a treat :) -
