Not Blocking Ports

I do apologize, im new to Pfsense.
I have Pfsense set up and working great. But their is something I don't understand.
I use steam and play Counter Strike online. From what I know, this needs a few UDP ports opened or forwarded. But I did not have to, Pfsense did not block the ports.
Is their something about the default rules I don't understand?

Most basic default rule for pfsense is to allow anything to anywhere from LAN.
And stateful firewall as pfsense is keeps connections open to return trafic for a while. -
You only need to forward ports if you want to run a server.
