PFsense: The Definitive Guide - for pFsense V2
-
We're still working on it, but it's going a bit slow. Mostly for lack of free time to write. It will be coming, but it will probably be closer to the 2.1 release and it will include IPv6 information as well.
A lot of the info in the 1.2.3 book still applies, even though some of the particulars may have changed in places.

Remember L7 :)

Yes we have a big long list of every new feature and intend to touch on them all at least in some capacity. L7 being one of them.ย ;D

If I could pre-order this you'd already have my money.ย :)

+1 from me as well.ย I will place an order or even a pre-order as soon as it is available.
I really like to have it in hardcover and will by it without hesitation.I bought the first version when it came out and it has been really useful for me.

Having got to know pfSense a lot more since my original post, I can see why it will be difficult to get finished. It really needs to describe the IPV6 and other new features of V2.1, or it will be out-of-date a day after publication. But V2.1 is still evolving, I guess Chris is beavering away trying to make screenshots of things he hopes don't change in the official V2.1 release. Looking forward to the book, but quite happy to wait until a couple of months after V2.1.

It is definitely hard to hit a moving target such as that. We are targeting 2.1, there will be IPv6 info included, and so on.
At this point we will probably have to forget putting much info in about packages again. I really would like to at least cover a couple (like squid) but with so much other stuff to cover, there's just not enough time to do it.

DLC?ย ;)

Or why not use voice dictation and then let some secretary take care of the writing?
-
It's much easier to type it out than dictate this kind of material. The chances of someone interpreting the dictation wrong are near 100%, and fixing what they misinterpreted would probably just as long as doing it ourselves in the first place.
The only cure is time, really.
