      Hey guys…
The main idea behind this is simple. Mellanox cards are becoming cheap, especially the older PCI models.
Originally they were meant for HPC ( High Performance Clustering ) but they do support IPoIB ( IP over InfiniBand ) which allows 10GB netowkr aggregation between servers and some enterprise level switches.

A quick eBAY search reveals the following http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p3984.m570.l1313&_nkw=MHET2x-1TC&_sacat=See-All-Categories
Cards start at $40 and up PLUS Shipping which is a steal in my opinion.

Decent Switches can be had around $350 that support this…
A good example is the Woven Systems TRX100 switch that can be had on eBay - 48 port with 4 CX4 10G back bones (item# 150744001224 - i made an offer and he took it )

      Anyways...
      Firmware - http://www.mellanox.com/content/pages.php?pg=custom_firmware_table
      Drivers - http://www.mellanox.com/content/pages.php?pg=software_overview_ib&menu_section=34

I would put at least $100 towards this, but im sure interest will grow and there will be more people willing to pitch in..
Looks like someone is already on it on the FreeBSD forum workin on it, but no ETA..

"xx views and no comment" posts are pretty silly, really. Lots of people may have no idea what you're asking because of the subject line and perhaps they think you're looking to see if drivers exist, which you apparently already know the answer to.

If nobody else knows the answer or is interested in contributing, they aren't going to reply, no matter how many views the post gets.

From what I can see, those ofed sources mentioned in the FreeBSD forum thread are actually in FreeBSD 9.x though I have no idea if or how well they work there.

It just comes down to basically one question…

Can someone port the drivers over to pfSense ???

That's the wrong question, the question is can someone port them to FreeBSD. (pfSense is built on top of FreeBSD – we use their drivers)

IB drivers have been around for awhile

                http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-current/2011-March/023554.html

put WITH_OFED into make.conf and rebuild the kernel. at least, that works with 9.x idk about pfsense and 8.x.

Me and coding or building would not work…
                  I got ADHD LOL
and i hate the meds so i get distracted very easily.

Plus that would just tempt me to build a v9 with the OFED drivers and then to compile pfsenso on top of that :)
