Configuring PPoe on WAN port with static IP
-
I have a customer with DSL and a block of 5 static IPs. We need one of the static IPs to be assigned to the WAN port on our Pfsense device. We are using a speedstream 5100 DSL modem and Pfsense 2.
After a lot of messing around I set the modem to bridge mode (forget exactly what they call it) and configured PPoE authentication on our Pfsense device. I believe this is the correct configuration however I do not know how to proceed from here. I need to somehow assign the static IP address so that in bound traffic can find us. Ordinarily all I would do (say with a cable modem) is set the public IP directly on the WAN port. How do I accomplish this if the WAN port is set to do PPoE authentication? There is no where to set a static IP. I believe that what gets assigned is the ISP gateway IP instead. I tried to setup a virtual IP with our static address and point that at the WAN but this did not seem to work.
Any advice? -
Depends on how your ISP handles that. It probably dynamically assigns the PPPoE address (your WAN address) and routes your static IPs there. So you just need to set them up as Other VIPs and configure your NAT accordingly as desired.
