Install how?
-
Hello! I'm actually new to BSD in total, so this is a large learning experience for me!
I have the latest OS and everything, blah blah blah.
Inside of a GZ, would I extract in a computer, put in a lfash drive, then boot and install? I really do feel dumb… but :V just new at this is all. Slap me otherwise :I

What are you trying to install on?
Which version of pfSense are you trying to install? (what is the exact file name?)Steve

from server guru's - nLayer, pfSense-2.0.1-RELEASE-1g-i386-nanobsd.img.gz most likely on a compaq D510 flat form desktop computer, or an IBM 600x laptop.
D510 - 2.00 ghz processor (soon to be upgraded, way upgraded) (P4)
768 ram
40 gig HDD
Broadcom netXtreme LAN card600X - 680 mhz processor (P3)
360 some ram
whatever hard drive I have (12 gigs to 60)
2 wireless cards to form a router, or, a physical router to plug into the 600X and a wireless card to either recieve or broadcast.I have yet to learn more and more about pfsense itself, so this is a learning experience :P

Ok. The NanoBSD images are really for embedded platforms, though it can be installed onto a standard machine.
For either of those units just use the standard install method via an ISO image written to CD.

The only reason you might not use that is if you have no CD-ROM drive (and can't boot from USB) or you want to run headless via the serial port.See: http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/HOWTO_Install_pfSense
