      @oragon:

      i just recently installed pfsense/captive portal. However, everytime the user connects to the landing page of the portal it shows the ip address on the pfsense. how do I hide it?

      Why do you want to hide it?

      The browser needs to send the response to the portal home page to a particular port on a particular system.  Do you know of a reliable way of passing that information to the browser such that the browser doesn't display it?

        It's impossible to have a user connect to something and hide its IP. It also doesn't matter at all whether your users know what that IP is or if you post it here for the entire Internet to see. Knowing an IP address does nothing.

          thanks guys for the reply. i might have used an incorrect description on the subject line. I should not have used the word "hide" but instead replace with something that will not show the ip address of the pfsense server. So, instead of the user showing like http://192.168.1.1 on the landing page, i want it to be http://www.myportal.com. Before installing the captive portal, I read something about DNS forwarder and was thinking this might help me resolved this problem. I have been searching it here but just could not find it.

              if you're using HTTPS you can specify a hostname to use.
