      Hi,

(not sure if this should have gone here, or in installation. If it's the wrong place, sorry! and please move it)

I'm trying to install pfSense on virtualbox to serve as part of a Active Directory system I hope to set up following a tutorial on YouTube. The install seems to work fine right up until I get to a line saying:

      IPsec: Initialized Security Association Processing

and then it just stops. I've left it like that for a while, and no change. I've been trying all sorts of combinations in the VirtualBox settings, and tried googling and searching this forum, have tried two different ISOs, and reinstalled the Virtual Machine a dozen times, but can't find anything related to my issue. I'm really, really new to all of this and getting very confused.

Any assistance in this would be AWESOME,
      Thanks,
      James

That's still in the hardware initialization phase of the boot.

I use virtualbox all the time and haven't seen that particular kind of failure. I just point it at the pfSense ISO I want to use and it boots right up.

What are the exact hardware settings you have used on the VM?

Well, this is embarrassing, but I tried it once again when I got in from school and it seems to be working.
          Sorry for wasting your time!

          Thanks,
          James

Hi, I am also getting this exact same error continuously. I did get past this stage at one point, but had to reinstall VirtualBox as it wasn't picking up a bridged adapter as my wireless adapter on my laptop. Now I've reinstalled VirtualBox, I get the network settings setup and the .iso image and start pfsense,  but it just stops at  "IPsec: Initialized Security Application Procce…. The screenshot is exactly like in the previous post.
I am very new to all this and I just want to create a home lab environment in order to study Microsoft SharePoint development.  I have installed WinServer 2008 R2 in VirtualBox but just need to get it onto the internet to go further with the setup.
I would be most grateful for some help!
            Thanks.
            Camilla

On my setup, the next line after that is when it initializes em0.

So this may have something to do with the network config inside virtualbox.

                Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I have actually managed to resolve this by using a different pfsense iso - pfSense-2.0-RELEASE-i386.iso.gz, I was using the 'amd64.iso.gz' previously as I have a 64bit machine.  This took me through but on the screen to install kernel, I only had 'Kernel only' instead of 'Symmetric multiprocessing..' . I hope this doesn't make too much difference?!

I have now setup my Win Server VM's network settings and it connects to my internal network but not the internet!
                My IPv4 settings are:
                IP address = 10.0.0.11
                Subnet mask= 255.255.255.0
                Default gateway = 10.0.0.254
                DNS Server = 127.0.0.1

My pfsense settings are em0 (wan) = 192.168.0.15 (dhcp) and em1 (lan) = 10.0.0.254. I can ping both IP's and the DNS Server.

When I click to diagnose the internet connection on my WinServer box it says my DNS server isn't responding.

Is there something I am missing here?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
                Thanks.
                Camilla.

                  Hi,

Looks like I'm on a roll! I changed the DNS Server IP to 10.0.0.254 and I can now get on the internet from my Win Server machine!

                  Thanks.
                  Camilla.
