I have a android app for my phone which is what they call a Air Mouse device to control my media center http://www.mobilemouse.com/
Internet access on the Media Center is fine, I just can't ping or connect to my Media center from any of my other devices on the network…. Media center has a Intel 5300 wireless card.Have tried many options in Pfsense be no luck...Misses important aspect of networking?
Could it be I need to change a properties for the Intel 5300 in the Windows 7 OS?Setup is as follows
Wan - xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Lan - 192.168.1.2
Wlan - 192.168.3.1DHCP server set up for both Lan & Wlan

The ping report is nearly always more informative than the executive summary "can't ping". What does ping report?
What is reported when you attempt (on the media centre) to ping:
1. the IP address of the pfSense WLAN interface?
2. the IP address of the pfSense LAN interface?
3. the IP address of the pfSense WAN interface?
4. 8.8.8.8 (a Google DNS address)? What is the output of the shell command```
ipconfig -

wallabybob here is whats strange … I pinged the wlan 192.168.3.1 from the Media Center and wlan responded back. I go back to my android phone and attempt for the hundredth time to ping the Media Center and it pings. It seems as though Pfsense was not aware of the Media Center until I pinged the wlan with the media ceter.
The media center has always shown up in the ARP table ... Maybe you have a clue as to whats going on?
Update ….. After a few minutes my android phone or the media center dropped the connection. It could be due to sleep mode on the Media Center, Lan is falling asleep?
I waked the Media Center backup and the android app reconnects .... something isn't quite right but its a start I guess.

Sorry, I don't. If it happens again a packet capture might be informative.

I suspect that phones generally turn off WiFi when it seems inactive or the phone seems inactive (power saving measure). That sort of behaviour might limit their utility as remote controls.
