VMWare on Win8: Help!
-
hi,
i thought i am happy with the succesful installation of pfsense on vmware sitting in win8.
pfsense succesfully installed. as expected the default LAN is 192.168.1.1, I was happy I could open the pf GUI. yet it took over over my internet routermodem so i had to change my LAN IP to 192.168.30.1. the thing is, the GUI wont open on 30.1? Maybe I missed something, can any help please?

You have your LAN port on your pfsense VM bridged to your LAN most likely. You can't plug two router LANs into each other both running DHCP and not get a conflict. So, you need to not do that. Since I don't know what you plan to use this VMware pfsense for, thats all the advice I can give without further info from you.

my map is internet > pfsense > pfclients
due to troublesome hardware incompatibility (or most likely my limited pfsense knowledge), i resorted to virtualizing the pfsense to get it installed, and it get installed. i was happy.
While installing i had the internet plug in my mobo onboard LAN and I still have 2 NICs on PCI slots.
the on-board LAN was taken as V-WAN 192.168.100.32(DHCP) I configure LAN as 192.186.100.2
previously my internet LAN IP is 192.168.1.1 but when the pfsnse was intalled on VM, it created a default V-LAN IP of 192.168.1.1, taking over my internet router. so i changed the VLAN to 192.168.30.1, it went well changing it with no error mssage. but when i used that VLAN to open the GUI, it wont open it. I tried to changed it as 192.168.1.1 and it did work but my router was taken over.
So what i did, i changed my router to 100.1 and reconfig the VLAN to 100.2 (silly) then i can both open internet router GUI and pfsense GUI (VLAN IP).
Now its time to upload antivirus, snort etc. however when i go to package > available package there an error saying "unbale to communicat with www.pfsense.com. plase verify dns and interface config, and that pfsense has functional internet connectivity"
on the VM settings I configured the network as :
adapter1: IntelPRO/1000 MT Desktop
adapter2: IntelPRO/ 1000 MT Desktopplease tell me what you need to help me. thanks

I need your LANs with DHCP running on them to not overlap.
I think…
You have internet> WAN router > Router Physical LAN > PC
^
^
^Pfsense LANYou can't have a couple of LANs with DHCP running touching (Physically or logically) on the same subnet or not.

What i did is I put back the old config 192.168.1.1 then reconfig VLAN into 192.168.1.2 then I think overlook a hile ago System: General Setup > DNS Servers
Now I got the list of packages in my pfsense whew! very challenging! thanks for you assistance at the moment but I know I'll be encountering another thing maybe the "out" or VLAN > clients. I'll be intouch!

Which version of VMware are you using?
(Yes - Having DNS is required) -
Which version of VMware are you using?
(Yes - Having DNS is required)VirtualBox 4.2.16 window host x86/amd64 and its 4.2.16 extension pack all supported platform
Okay to continue, I'm now happy that I can now access the pfsense GUI and my internet router GUI with no conflicks.
despite that the packages are listed, none of them that i can install then none of them eventually appear it says "Unable to communicate with. Please verify DNS and interface configuration, and that pfSense has functional Internet connectivity."
I checked the internet connection for "Virtual Box host only network" and there's no connection at all.
Ethernet4 > no internet
Virtual BoxHos only Network > no internetNetwork2 (on board LAN) > with connection
my net map:
internet (as router) > pc win8 with vmware pfsense. > pf clients

VirtualBox 4.2.16 (So you are using virtual box emulation)?
But you also mention "vmware"?
So did you download the pfsense VM? Like the ready-made pfsense VM appliance?
Which version?

Oh it seem VM ware is different for VM. Sory for that, am not that techie.Well am using oracle vm virtualbox. using pfsense 2.0.3 release i386 ova.
would you care to tll me what you mean by emulation when we speak of VM Virtualbox?

Well - When you say "VM" you are saying virtual machine.
So, you have a computer > hypervisor installed on computer > one or more OSs installed on hypervisor. If your intent it to use the computer only for pfsense, you should not need to install VMs.
It should be installed directly to hardware. If your intent is to use win8 and pfsense on a single box, you could also look into something like v-sphere or ESX.
I'v only used virtual box long enough to know I didn't like it much.(Actually, I MUCH prefer to run pfsense seperately and virtualize everything else) - So much less issues.
What is your first language?

A Filipino newbie here.
I did it already. Have now successfully configured the VB and now running well. pf client may not able to connect wirelessly and wired via switch.
Thanks alot for your presence. Now, I had to deal with running the snort. I'll be here again if I fail to run it.
More power to you kejianshi!!!!
