Bridged OpenVPN

I spent several hours beating my head against a wall trying to get OpenVPN to work in bridged mode on a Proxmox VM. I originally tried just creating a generic OpenVZ container, but when I was consistently stuck, thought that I'd give pfSense a try instead. My theory was that since it was fully virtualized that it should just work. However, I still could not get a bridged VPN operational.

After consideration, I'd really like to use pfSense. Can anyone provide any advice on whether there are any means of setting it up in a virtual environment in which bridged OpenVPN works properly? Ideally, in Proxmox, but I'm willing to use a different virtualization platform if necessary.
