SquidGuard syntax question.
-
I've done a bit of reading and can't seem to get this right.
My goal. I would like to make groups in the User Manager like Adult, P2P and so on. I could add users and as I put them in the system (Captive portal) add groups to control access. i.e a friend comes to visit. I add a temporary user for the weekend and grant P2P or Adult access as needed.
As of now I can't even make use of users let alone groups. It only works if I enter the IP address of a machine. haven't tried MAC address. But either way I would rather it be user based.
I'm sure its syntax related. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

And what about squidGuard?

Somehow the question is missing…

what I want to know is how to do this. thanks

SquidGuard is not a stand-alone program, use it is with Squid.

Yup I have it all setup with squid3. I know all that is working my problem is I feel I must be missing a syntax statement in the manual. Everyone has porn, spyware, and P2P blocked except my main system at 192.168.1.20. This has been tested on many of the other computers in the house.
Under Groups ACL I want to have Groups that I made in the User Manager bypass some of the restrictions.
The problem is if I just put a username i.e user1 or a group name form User Manager i.e adult, it doesn't recognise it. If I put the IP of a machine i.e 192.168.1.20 it works.
I'm sure I'm just not putting that syntax right in the user or group. my questions is.
Do I need to put something like user=user1 or group=adult, or some other information in to make the built in usermanager work?
Maybe something just isn't working and I'm doing it right and its not working with the usermanager created groups and users.
thanks all for the replys and taking the time to help

From the lack of replies I will have to assume that this is something that cannot be done in the current version of pfSense. Thanks so much for looking and trying to help.

The Squid/SquidGuard can not take users/groups from User Manager. Look exists Squid auth methods - squid have self local users list & it is (usernames) also can be used with SquidGuard. Squid - master application, that defined how users will be identified; and, the squidGuard - a slave application, that only receives this usernames for filtering.
