Will hardware that works w/ m0n0wall work w/ pfsense?
-
I'm looking to set up pfSense as the router for the main office and a satellite office for my company. I'll be creating a site to site vpn, and will probably have 1-2 remote users connecting via vpn as well. I'll also have multiple WAN connections in the main office, so the hardware will have to deal with that too.
So far the best price I've been able to find for rack mountable hardware to do this is this: http://www.logicsupply.com/products/perimeter_r
It comes loaded with m0n0wall, so is it safe to assume that I will be able to load pfSense on it?
Also - I would like to load the full version of pfSense, preferably onto a solid state drive, is there a preferred brand or model to use?

Yep, that'll work.

Excellent! Thank you

Note that this isn't recommended due to the short write life of such devices. You'll want to ensure you buy one that's designed for such use, as CF cards and the like aren't.

If you do decide to use CF cards for such applications be SURE to have as much RAM as possible so you don't do much, if any, disk swaps!
Also - be sure the CF devices have physical to logical addressing with algorithms that "rotate" the free space use of the memory elements within the device. Earlier (and some less "expensive" CF devices) do not have such algorithms so will write over and over to the same memory elements - since the memory elements have relatively short re-write ability the device will stop working properly over a relatively short period of time. This is the "down-side" to CF devices.
Just some observations…
